At considerable expense to myself, I foolishly decided to put into book form a collection of my essays in English. The first essay dates from 1997, and is entitled "The Mirage of Exports", and the last one is from October of this year, "How I Became a Gold-bug". The title of this opus is "Essays on This and That".

The edition was of 200 copies, hardback and printed on good paper, and the volumes contain 767 pages of my scribbling.

At present, the main value of the book is as a sleep-inducing drug. So if you have sleeping problems, this is the book for you. However, in 50 years, it may possibly have some historic value, as illustrating the problems that faced the world in these tumultuous times.

I am offering 125 of these books, signed by me, free of charge to my readers. I especially want to thank Jesse, at his excellent site www.jessescrossroadscafe.com, for his generosity in placing links to my articles, published at www.plata.com.mx, on his website.

I also have a remainder of 125 copies of a little book in English, "My Years with Elektra", also signed by me; it's an account of my business life as CEO of Elektra, 1952-1988. Elektra is a Mexican company in which I have been a shareholder since my youth, and my job as its CEO is the only job I have ever had. (I began at the top, at age 20, expecting to be demoted downward.) The company has grown enormously since I left the management to my eldest son Richard, in 1988. Some people have found the book rather amusing.

So my gift will be to send both books free of charge to the first 125 readers who send me their name and postal address.
